Giancarlo Stanton holds all of the Cards (not a pun)

Image
St. Louis Cardinals fans have been lighting up social media with their wet dreams of acquiring Giancarlo Stanton. It is hard to blame them as it appears Stanton feels like the perfect fit and the club certainly has the prospect and financial resources to make a deal with the Marlins and bring the MVP to the Midwest. Many fans, the forever pessimists, are already calling for the heads of team executives if they can not make a deal, suggesting coming in second again would simply not be acceptable. If this were a normal situation, my feelings would be similar considering the franchise’s desperate need for an anchor and star. But this is not a normal situation. Giancarlo Stanton holds all of the Cards, and that does not necessarily means it’s the St. Louis Cardinals. Stanton can choose exactly where he wants to go, or if he wants to go at all, and there is little that Derek Jeter, John Mozeliak or the San Francisco Giants can do about it. Jeter is desperate to slash p

Clay Travis thinks the regular season is irrelevant

Saturday was admittedly another wild day, capping off an extended wild weekend in college football. Alabama, previously unblemished, lost to their bitter rival Auburn on the road and in doing so, has managed not even to earn the right to play for the SEC Championship. That privledge belongs to Auburn and Georgia, who will meet in Atlanta next week in Arthur Blank’s (ahem, pardon me, Atlanta’s) fancy new stadium in a rematch from earlier this season. That game was also the only blemish on Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs, which says something incredibly impressive regarding what Auburn has accomplished late in the season. But what has irked me is the pundits treatment of Alabama, who so many believe, still belongs in the College Football Playoff conversation. Sure, at 11-1, they look plenty deserving, but comments like this one from Clay Travis drive me up the wall when it comes to college sports (this happens all the time with seeding in March Madness) as  well. Final tru

Stop talking about Josh Donaldson

Image
Alright dip-shits, I'm back. All of your stupidity on Twitter and that of the manager putting Matt Carpenter at second base has driven me to not only be more active on social media, but has actually given me the will power to toss some words together that are sure to infuriate you. Lets jump right to the title of this poorly written article. Why in the hell are we talking about acquiring Josh Donaldson? He is 31 years old, has missed most of the season due to injury and is a free agent after 2018. If we can all agree that this is not a roster that can compete, and likely still would be challenged versus the likes of the division leading Brewers and the bound to eventually catch fire Cubs, why in the flying eff would you make this investment? Would you really sign Josh Donaldson to a long term deal at the age of 33 after the 2018 season? I sure as hell would not be interested in trading away what looks like a bounty if you believe Jon Heyman has an IQ above that of Forres

Cardinals can not take advantage of Nationals comedy of errors

Image
Anyone watching Fox Sports Midwest on Monday night had to wonder if they were watching a Junior Varsity contest between Chaminade Prep and DeSmet Jesuit. No, that certainly was a Major League game on Monday. A Major League game that the Cardinals managed (that is not a pun because this one has nothing to do with the manager) to lose despite the Washington Nationals committing four "official" errors. Despite the comedy of errors, the Cardinals fell to 2-5 on the young season, and I am sure that Twitter is on fire as I type this at 1045 pm CT. I would not know, since I have unofficially quit the social media network. I simply felt most of the mucous spewed on their by "the faithful" simply had clouded my judgement and tempted even my own fairly objective bias. So the below thoughts on Monday night's loss are below. And I am sure the seven of you that will read this article will talk bad about me on Twitter behind my back. I will check my DM's, but n

Polling the fans: What is the most you would give Yadier Molina?

Image
Yesterday, I told you that the biggest story you should be concerned with from the weekend should be Lance Lynn pitching just one inning in his start, leaving for "precautionary" reasons. There was more news out regarding Lynn on Monday, and pardon me for not believing its particularly inspiring. Lance Lynn will no longer start for the #STLCards Thursday in Memphis. Instead, he'll stay back and throw in a game in Jupiter. — Jenifer Langosch (@LangoschMLB) March 27, 2017 Now, to Yadier Molina, who St. Louis Cardinals fans simply can not talking about.  The catcher laid down an ultimatum over the weekend on getting a contract extension done by opening day. Langosch also told Bernie Miklasz (what can I say, she is a busy lady) that Molina wants to be the highest paid catcher in baseball. So, like any slightly below average sports blog, we polled the fans on Twitter, asking what is the most you would give Molina if you were in general manager John Mozeliak's s

Cardinals: Lance Lynn, not Kolten Wong, should be top story

Image
The St. Louis Cardinals are finally in the final week of the long and dreaded spring training season. I personally feel worn out, and the ACTUAL season has yet to begin. Based on the stories of the weekend, the final week should be a busy and eventful one. Between Yadier Molina's ultimatum to have a contract in place by opening day or negotiations end and Kolten Wong being a nimrod and pretending like he is some savvy veteran who has actually earned something, the professional writers have had a pretty easy job over the last few days. Excuse me for thinking that the social media diehards have been a bit distracted. This below should be the biggest story. Lynn hovering in that 87-88 mph range with fastball right before being removed. #Cardinals #stlcards https://t.co/vFemwCOTgy via @stltoday — Derrick Goold (@dgoold) March 25, 2017 I'm sorry, but when the guy who is now being relied upon to be your No. 2 starter (yes, I trust Lynn to have a good year more than

Cardinals hacking scandal: Organization gets off easy

Image
Finally, we have clarity on the St. Louis Cardinals hacking scandal. Six months after Chris Correa (evidently, the lone bad wolf)  plead guilty in a federal court to hacking the Houston Astros database of prospect info, among other things, MLB has handed the Cardinals organization its punishment. The Cardinals have been fined $2 million (the max allowable under the new CBA) (a CBA that Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt was instrumental in negotiating). The club has also been stripped of their top two remaining MLB draft picks in 2017. Frankly, I think the Cardinals got off easy here. I could go in to a diatribe on why, but I’d prefer you simply read John Nagel’s thoughts over at  RedBirdDaily.com . He lays out a pretty simple argument of how the Cardinals, DeWitt and general manager John Mozeliak got off easy. He also explains, why, once again, Mozeliak is a bit of genius. Nagel also discussed the impact on bonus pool money this will have. It is worth the read. Where I would prefer
