All of your stupidity on Twitter and that of the manager putting Matt Carpenter at second base has driven me to not only be more active on social media, but has actually given me the will power to toss some words together that are sure to infuriate you. Lets jump right to the title of this poorly written article. Why in the hell are we talking about acquiring Josh Donaldson? He is 31 years old, has missed most of the season due to injury and is a free agent after 2018. If we can all agree that this is not a roster that can compete, and likely still would be challenged versus the likes of the division leading Brewers and the bound to eventually catch fire Cubs, why in the flying eff would you make this investment? Would you really sign Josh Donaldson to a long term deal at the age of 33 after the 2018 season? Anyone watching Fox Sports Midwest on Monday night had to wonder if they were watching a Junior Varsity contest between Chaminade Prep and DeSmet Jesuit. No, that certainly was a Major League game on Monday. A Major League game that the Cardinals managed (that is not a pun because this one has nothing to do with the manager) to lose despite the Washington Nationals committing four "official" errors. Despite the comedy of errors, the Cardinals fell to 2-5 on the young season, and I am sure that Twitter is on fire as I type this at 1045 pm CT. Yesterday, I told you that the biggest story you should be concerned with from the weekend should be Lance Lynn pitching just one inning in his start, leaving for "precautionary" reasons. The St. Louis Cardinals are finally in the final week of the long and dreaded spring training season. I personally feel worn out, and the ACTUAL season has yet to begin. Based on the stories of the weekend, the final week should be a busy and eventful one. Between Yadier Molina's ultimatum to have a contract in place by opening day or negotiations end and Kolten Wong being a nimrod and pretending like he is some savvy veteran who has actually earned something, the professional writers have had a pretty easy job over the last few days. Finally, we have clarity on the St. Louis Cardinals hacking scandal. Six months after Chris Correa (evidently, the lone bad wolf)  plead guilty in a federal court to hacking the Houston Astros database of prospect info, among other things, MLB has handed the Cardinals organization its punishment. The Cardinals have been fined $2 million (the max allowable under the new CBA) (a CBA that Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt was instrumental in negotiating). The club has also been stripped of their top two remaining MLB draft picks in 2017. Frankly, I think the Cardinals got off easy here. St. Louis Cardinals fans rejoiced last week when it was finally announced that general manager John Mozeliak was able to land his big fish,  Dexter Fowler . Mozeliak certainly pushed some of his own boundaries with this deal, extending Fowler to five-years at a price tag of $82.5 million to bring him to St. Louis. The move has received loads of praise from the talking heads in the market.  Benjamin Hochman likes the signing , of course, for reasons that have nothing to do with actual sports.  Derrick Goold has pointed out  that Fowler’s personality and leadership will add a new dynamic to the clubhouse. As St. Louis Cardinals fans sit around, frustrated with the lack of action taken by general manger John Mozeliak, there is plenty that can be learned from this “Hot Stove” season. Matt Holliday and the St. Louis Cardinals are finally going to break up, as it was announced on Friday afternoon that general manager John Mozeliak and communicated with the slugger the club’s intention NOT to pick-up his option for next season. The move came as little surprise, but surprisingly sent Twitter in to an uproar on how cheap the franchise is and how Holliday deserved better.  Of course, there also were the other detractors who go out of their way to diminish Holliday’s accomplishments as a member of the Cardinals organization that were in essence saying “good riddance.”  But the reality, or should I say irony, of Friday’s proceedings at Busch, including Holliday’s magical pinch-hit home run in what was likely his last at bat as a member of the Cardinals, was that Holliday finally garnered the respect from Cardinals fans that he has long deserved. The St. Louis Cardinals find themselves in a precarious spot for the first time in many years. It has been over half a decade where you would consider the Cardinals and general manager John Mozeliak anything other than a “buyer” at the MLB trade deadline. But the 2016 season has presented some unique circumstances and despite struggles at home,  an onslaught of injuries and inconsistencies, the club sits just 6.5 games out of first place in the NL Central and in one of the two Wild Card spots. In most towns, given the circumstances, this would be considered a job well done by Mozeliak, manager  Mike Matheny  and the Cardinals. It was another miserable weekend for the St. Louis Cardinals, who dropped 2 of 3 games from the Miami Marlins in the club’s first series after the All-star game. The weekend saw many of the same issues that have plagued the Cardinals all season, which caused the unfavorable, yet all too familiar result. An ineffective Trevor Rosenthal, too many strikeouts, bad defense, below average starting pitching and yes, some questionable decisions from manager Mike Matheny were the culprits once again.
